Easy DIY Crayons using Silicone Molds

Just when you thought coloring couldn’t get more fun, these easy DIY crayons using silicone molds are a big hit with young kiddos. And what a fun way to recycle those old broken crayons (let’s be honest — we’ve all got a stash lying around our homes) into new ones! They are also the perfect size for little hands and will help sharpen those fine motor skills, too!

Let’s get started!


  • Crayons
  • Warm water
  • Silicone molds (you can find the rainbow mold here and an assortment of other fun molds here).
  • Baking sheet
  • Oven

  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees
  • Let crayons soak in warm water for 10 minutes to remove peel/glue. This will save you so much time, I promise!
  • Break crayons into small pieces. The smaller the pieces, the quicker they will melt.
  • Fill molds with crayon pieces. It’s okay to over fill molds — the crayons will take up less space when they melt.
  • Place molds on baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes, until crayons are melted through.
  • Carefully remove cookie sheet from oven and transfer to freezer for 30 minutes.
  • Release the crayons from molds by pushing them out.
